Godchildren Gifts Guide

Mid-Highschool Quick Guide to Special Godchildren Gifts

Godchildren Gifts part 3! Do you struggle to find great godchildren gifts year after year? If you have middle school or high school aged godchildren, this list will help you find that special gift! It is important to pray for and nurture your godchildren. We try to use our gifts to build their faith.

For our children and our six godchildren, I keep a list of what we get the children each year. This helps us avoid repeat gifts because we love the following gifts so much! Most people are on a budget and so most of the gifts on the list are less than $30! You may want to check out my pre-reader and young reader gift guides as well which contain some gifts that are relevant for all ages!

I do not receive any bonus from the following links! I simply want to share it with you!

Ignatius Bible

Catholic Bible

RSV 2nd Catholic Edition Bible – Older children will want their own Bible to read! This Revised Standard Version 2nd Catholic Edition makes the perfect gift. The language has been modernized for ease of reading while still remaining beautifully rendered English and staying close to the literal meaning of the original text. Plus, this 2nd Catholic Edition is specifically translated in accordance with the Church’s teaching on translations for use in Catholic liturgy.

Blessed Be God

Catholic Prayer Book

Blessed Be God – This book is a fantastic gift for home, Mass, and beyond! It is my favorite book; I literally never leave home without it. It contains the ordinary of the Latin Mass, the Gospel and Epistles of the Sundays and major feasts, the traditional Requiem Mass, and Wedding Mass propers. Furthermore, it has preparation for confession, daily prayers, prayers to say during Mass, prayers after communion, litanies, and more!

Baltimore Catechism

Catholic Catechesis for Godchildren Gifts

The Baltimore Catechism Volume 2 – 4 – In the last post I recommended Baltimore Catechism Level 1 for younger children which contains a selection of the questions recommended by the Third Council of Baltimore.  Baltimore Catechism Level 2 is geared towards older students and contains all the questions prescribed by the Third Council of Baltimore, including all the ones in Level 1. Level 3 contains many additional questions as a supplement to give a broader view of the Catholic faith.  Finally, Level 4 is geared towards teachers, catechists, or advanced students and gives deeper theological explanations of the content of the questions.  Overall a great presentation of the faith for children at different age levels!

Ignatius Study Bible

Ignatius New Testament Catholic Study Bible – This is the same translation as the Bible I recommended above (RSV-2CE) but includes comprehensive information in footnotes and articles to understand the New Testament better. Some of the individual books of the Old Testament are also already available in the same series as well.

Lives of the Saints Fr Alban Butler

Catholic Saint Books

There are so many saint books it’s hard to choose. These are comprehensive books with Saints for each day of the year by the same author! One is a condensed version, Lives of the Saints, and the other is the complete set, Butler’s Lives of the Saints (4 Volume Set).

Godchild Gift Butler's Lives of Saints

DVDs for Godchildren Gifts

You can purchase DVDs or add to the child’s digital collection by buying wholesome movies that the whole family can watch! A couple of favorites are The Sound of Music for a birthday gift and It’s a Wonderful Life for a Christmas present.

Daily Missal 1962

Missals

1962 Daily Missal – This missal contains the ordinary of the Latin Mass as well as all the propers for the different Sundays and feasts- everything you need to follow along at the Latin Mass in English and Latin! It also contains daily prayers, preparation for confession, basic Catholic doctrine and more!

Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Confirmation / Office Godchildren gifts

The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary – This is the most popular of the traditional “little offices.” It is an official liturgical prayer of the church, possessing prayers in Latin and English for all eight traditional canonical hours of the Church’s prayer (including Prime), but simple and short enough for a lay person to easily fit into their schedule.

Monastic Diurnal

Monastic Diurnal – For someone who wants a little bit more intensity in praying the Divine office this book contains all the “day hours” (seven canonical hours, excluding Matins) according to the practice of the traditional Benedictine monasteries, in English and Latin. It is the closest current liturgical office to the ancient traditional office of the church. If someone is going to pray this Office they will definitely want to check out the blog, Saints Will Arise for all kinds of helpful tips and information about praying these traditional prayers!
