Do you struggle to find great godchildren gifts year after year? If you have young godchildren, this list will help you find that special gift! It is important to pray for and nurture your godchildren. We try to use our gifts to build their faith.
For our children and our six godchildren, I keep a list of what we get the children each year. This helps us avoid repeat gifts because we love the following gifts so much! Most people are on a budget and so most of the gifts on the list are less than $30!
I do not receive any bonus from the following links! I simply want to share it with you!
Bible Books for younger godchildren gifts
The first two books do not have an imprimatur. Generally, that is something we look for when purchasing gifts. It means that it has been reviewed by a bishop and contains accurate information that is true to Catholicism. Though these books have not specifically been labeled with an imprimatur, they are a great addition to a Catholic library.
The Picture Bible – fun to read with the kids because it is set up like a comic book and there are plenty of visual details for them to follow along.
5-minute Bible Stories – great for a bedtime story after a busy day and short enough for the children to grasp.
Catholic Bibles
These Bibles are specifically Catholic and good for younger godchildren gifts.
My Golden Children’s Bible – this is a board book that is great for the kiddos to flip through and has short versions of Bible stories.
New Catholic Picture Bible – more in-depth stories for slightly older kiddos -an ideal version to read to children and increase their knowledge overtime.
Catholic Prayer Books and Cards
The following prayer books are designed for young readers or for parents to read to their children:
Catholic Book of Prayers for Children
Catholic Prayer Book for Children
St Joseph Pocket Prayer Book – a fun book that kids love to pretend to read because it is just their size. It contains great basic prayers for when they get older.
Guardian Angel Prayer Card is just one example of the many prayer cards for purchase online or at your local Catholic gift shop. Kids love to play with the prayer cards during Mass.
Catholic Catechesis
There are many books in the St Joseph Picture Book series that teach children about the Catholic Faith. Because there are so many, we have not read them all yet!
Catholic Saint Books
There are so many saint books its hard to choose; these are a few of our favorites to gift!
Again, the Saint Joseph Picture Book series has several Saint books.
Picture Book of Saints – a book about the Saints by Fr. Lovasik who also wrote the New Catholic Picture Bible above!
My Golden Book of Saints – this is another board book that is great for the kiddos to use and has short versions of the lives of Saints.
Saintly Rhymes for Modern Times – a book with engaging pictures and poems about Saints from modern-day history.
DVDs for godchildren gifts
Our favorite DVDs come from CCC. They are short videos about the Saints and some famous people in history. They are entertaining for children and are enjoyable for parents to watch too! Make sure you check for sales, otherwise it is pricey.
Missals
My See and Pray Missal for the Latin Mass is primarily pictures depicting what is happening during the Mass with short sentences for budding readers.
It is wordier, but for a Novus Ordo Missal, I would recommend another St Joseph series book by Fr. Lovasik called My Picture Missal.
Calendars
The best calendar you can buy is from TAN books. It contains both New and Traditional Calendar feast days and reminders of Ember Days, Rogation Days, and days of fasting and abstinence.
Rosaries
Silicone Rosary – great for teethers and keeping them entertained during Mass and family prayer time.
Wooden Rosary – pro tip- wait until the child is done teething to introduce this rosary, otherwise the paint comes off with chewing.
Holy Rosary Illustrated Mini Booklet – great for parents to have images to focus on during each mystery (especially for First Saturday mediations) but children love it too because of its size!
Rosary Case – children will love to put a plastic rosary into a case and carry it with them! It can keep them entertained just for the fun of opening and closing it.
Statues – Patron Saints, Mary, Jesus
Small Statues make a great gift- get one of the child’s patron Saint to start their collection.
Baptism
We love to get an embroidered burp cloth with the child’s name and baptism date on it. Find a local embroiderer.
Wall Cross – the child’s first cross is memorable and needed! Complete the nursery with a timeless gift.
First Birthday
Noah’s Ark – a fun toy for play and as they get older they can learn more about the classic bible story!
Advent/Christmas
Advent calendar – children will have fun counting down to Christmas and also with magnet play. There is no chocolate involved and if they make a mistake, they just move the magnet! It reusable year after year!
Nativity Set – a traditional item that you only bring out once a year makes children want to play with it more. They can reenact the stories leading up to Jesus’ birth and the adoration of the Magi.
A fun, but not specifically Catholic, Christmas book is the Very First Christmas
Fun for both godparents and godchildren bonus gifts
Pout Pout Fish – a sad fish wanders about the ocean until he accidentally finds a fish that makes him smile.
Gruffalo – a humorous story about the adventure of a mouse journeying through the woods keeping his predators away with a tale of a monstrous beast.
Click Clack Moo – a funny book where cows on a farm make demands of the farmer.
